I highly recommend you pay for a night or two at Mike Ditka’s Runaway Beach Club Resort in Kissimmee. Not really sure why they call it the Beach Club since it’s an hour away from the beach. But it’s a really good deal.
We paid $89 a night with the Groupon deal for a two bedroom, two bath room with a full kitchen, small dining room, family and laundry. One bedroom had a king, the other had a single bed and a double. There were also two sleeper sofas in the family room.
The resort was quite large (16 acres) with the townhouse type buildings spread out on the property around a small lake type retention pond.
It had nice landscaping with lots of sidewalks. They had two very nice pools and a jacuzzi.
The one pool was children’s pool with water fountains.
They have a lot of lounge chairs around the pool and some facing the lake and fountain. It was nice and relaxing to sit poolside and read while enjoying their beachy music. They also offer poolside movies every night.
The resort also had an indoor basketball half court and a fitness center. Although we were surprised that both of the sports areas weren’t bigger since it was a Mike Ditka resort. But they were still nice.
The staff were friendly and helpful. I was assumed that they all wore football jerseys instead I’d typical hotel attire.
We used the Groupon for our youth leader’s retreat. And it worked out really well. They didn’t charge us any extra for the amount of people we brought. And they didn’t give us a hard time about asking for more sheets or towels.
It was a great chance to relax together, swim, play games and go out to eat. The resort is located very close to many shops, restaurant and the Orlando theme parks. They’re also supposed to offer free shuttles to the Disney parks.
We’re hoping to take advantage of those shuttles when we stay at the resort with my dad later this fall. He’s wanting to take us to one of the theme parks. We’re thinking about choosing Animal Kingdom. I’ve only been there once soon after it first opened. And I think Haddie would really enjoy all the animals.
